Abstract:In view of the lack of unified methods and standards in the current research of soil moisture content calibration, this paper has developed a complete calibration method and device of soil moisture content sensor to improve the accuracy of soil moisture content measurement.Sixdifferent types of soil moisture content sensors were selected and standard soil column series were manufactured in the laboratory.By comparing with the standard value obtained by drying method, the relationship between the sensor data and the standard value is established by using a variety of fiting lines,and the measured value of the sensor is corrected.The experimental results show that the calibration method and device of soil moisture content sensor can effectively calibrate different types of sensors.It is found that cubic curve is the most suitable calibration formula for soil moisture content sensor.The measurement accuracy of all sensors improved significantly after calibration,with SoilVUE10(0.5 and 1m)having the highest measurement accuracy over the entire volume water content range,with R²>0.99.Based on the applicability analysis of the sensor,it is recommended to use the calibrated needle sensor when monitoring the surface soil and the calibrated threaded rod sensor when monitoring the soil profile in field applications.This study not only standardizes the production method of standard soil column, improves the measurement accuracy of soil moisture sensor in laboratory environment,but also provides a reference for selecting suitable soil moisture sensor in field conditions.
